Required Training - Forty (40) Hours

In accordance with BSIS (Bureau of Security and Investigative Services) guidelines and compliance with B&P 7583.6 all security officers must complete forty (40) hours of mandatory security training as follows:

• 8 Hours Pre-Employment “Power to Arrest” (PTA) training to be eligible to receive a Guard Card.
• Within thirty (30) days of becoming employed as a security officer you must undergo sixteen (16) hours of additional training.
• Within six (6) months of becoming employed as a security officer you must undergo an additional sixteen (16) hours of training.

The BST (Basic Security Training) course provides the first sixteen (16) hours of training mandated by BSIS under B&P 7583.6. This course consists of two days training of eight (8) hours each day one consisting of eight (8) hours of “mandatory” training and day two being eight (8) hours of “elective” training.

Basic Security Training - Course Description:

These courses consist of lectures, video, workbook and hands on, practical application training in Public Relations, Observation & Documentation, Arrest Control Tactics and Merchants Privilege Rule.  Upon satisfactory completion of this course the student will receive a certificate of completion indicating they are in compliance with the training requirements of BSIS and B&P 7583.6.
