To attend this course you must:

• Provide your own firearm & ammunition.
• Have a suitable holster, belt, and at least 3 magazines or speed loaders.
• Provide proof of US citizenship or provide proof of legal residence AND proof of authorization to work in the United States.
• Posses a valid Driver's License or photo ID issued by a US Government agency.
• Have no criminal convictions.
• Be proficient in the English Language.

Firearms Training for Private Security - Course Description

Classroom Training:

You will learn moral and legal aspects of firearms use, firearms nomenclature, weapons handling and shooting fundamentals, and emergency procedures.

Range Training:

The six hours of range training will give you practice in safely handling and firing your weapon. You must re-qualify on the range every 6 months in order to renew your permit.

Range Proficiency Standard:

Each student shall qualify with an 80% score (200 out of 250 points) or 40 rounds out of 50 on the scoring segment.

Re-qualification:

Applicants with a current firearm permit who are completing their semi annual range re-qualifications are not required to attend the academic portion of the training (Day 1). They are only required to complete the two-hour refresher course on Day 2 and successfully complete the Proficiency qualification.

Applicants with a current firearm permit who are completing their fourth semi-annual range re-qualification for the purpose of renewing a firearm permit must attend BOTH the academic portion of the training (Day 1) and the range re-qualification proficiency exam (Day 2).

Renewals:

Firearm permits expire two years from the date of issuance. Applicants must re-qualify four times during the life of the permit: twice during the first year after the date of issuance, and twice during the second year. Re-qualifications must be at least four months apart. The application for renewal should be submitted to the Bureau 60 days before the firearms permit expires. The current fee for renewing a firearm permit is $98.00. If you have allowed your firearms permit to expire you may not renew it and must re-apply as if it were your initial application for the firearms permit.
